Protecting Our Water: Local Conservatives Demand Action from Yorkshire Water and Government
At Full Council, Cllr Sean McMaster (South East Holderness Ward) presented a powerful motion demanding answers and accountability from Yorkshire Water and the Government.
The motion called on the East Riding Council to write to Yorkshire Water and ask:
1️⃣ Why a hosepipe ban is being imposed despite the aquifer supplying plenty of water.
2️⃣ Why over 200,000 hours of raw sewage was dumped last year — and why stronger action hasn’t been taken.
3️⃣ Why record dividends were paid to shareholders while service levels remain unacceptable.
4️⃣ Why household bills have risen by 30% despite no real improvement for customers.
The motion also asked for a letter to be sent to the relevant Government Minister, urging them to take action to stop these practices and legislate for real change.
Our residents deserve better — and Conservative councillors are fighting to hold Yorkshire Water to account.

Unveiling of two incredible statues dedicated to J.R.R Tolkien in Roos.
Today was an incredibly special day. Myself and my ward colleague Cllr. Lyn Healing attended the unveiling of two incredible statues dedicated to J.R.R Tolkien in Roos.
Tolkien stayed in the area in 1917, whilst recovering from Trench Fever. He and his wife Edith would walk in the woods and it was here that Tolkien would be inspired to write the tale of Beren and Luthien.
I have been a lover of Tolkien’s work for many years, first discovering the magical tales of Middle Earth through the Peter Jackson adaptations and later reading the books. To be there today was a great privilege and I want to say a huge thank you to all those involved in the events organisation, to All Saints Church Roos for hosting the event, and to Lincolnshire based artist Allen Stichler for carving these incredible statues.
A big thank you to our fabulous Chairman Liam Dealtry for unveiling the statues along with Phil Mathison.
It was also great to have met Phil Mathison, the author of ‘Tolkien in East Yorkshire 1917 - 1918’. I’m certainly looking forward to reading his book.
J.R.R Tolkien was the most inspirational authors of the 20th Century and this is such a fitting tribute to his life and work.
South East Holderness is full of cultural and historical significance that is not nearly talked about enough. That needs to change.
It is our hope that with the introduction of attractions like these, people will come from miles around to admire this beautiful part of the country and enjoy its rich heritage. Our very own Shire.

Withernsea’s Banking Hub Secured – Thanks to Your Local Councillors and MP
Thanks to the determined efforts of Cllr Lyn Healing and Cllr Sean McMaster, the new Banking Hub on Queen Streetis now open – securing access to cash and face-to-face banking for our town for years to come.
They led the charge locally, working closely with community champion Jayne Nendick at SHoRes, and with national support from MP Graham Stuart, to get this over the line.
👏 A huge thank you to Lyn and Sean for standing up for Withernsea and seeing this through.

Backing Our Farmers: Local Conservative Councillors Take Action!
Local Conservative councillors are standing up for farmers across Holderness and the whole of the East Riding. On 8th January, Cllr Sean McMaster (South East Holderness Ward) presented a motion to Full Council, calling for resolute support for our farmers, their livelihoods, and our rural communities.
The motion urges the Council to take direct action by writing to the Chancellor, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Prime Minister, demanding a rethink on recent changes to inheritance tax and capital gains tax on farmers. These changes threaten family-owned farms, local businesses, our rural economy, and even national food security.
The fight to protect our farmers continues, and local Conservative councillors are committed to standing with them every step of the way!
