The large chapel at Chanterlands Crematorium in Hull was the unexpected scene on Thursday 1st September for a vigorous and moving celebration of the life of East Riding Councillor Irene Amanda Grace Charis. Irene was a member of the Revive Church and the celebration was led by the Pastor Rev. Jarrod Cooper and ably supported by many enthusiastic church members. The chapel was full of family members, East Riding Councillors and Council staff, members of the Revive Church and friends of Irene. All were present to remember a very busy person who had lived life to the full and of whom her two daughters could be very proud.
The leader of East Riding Council, Councillor Stephen Parnaby, in his tribute said that Irene had struck him on first impressions as a person of excellent character. On getting to know her better he became convinced that she had come into politics for all the right reasons to make a difference to the lives of the people she represented.
All in the Conservative Association who knew Irene mourn her passing. She was a fine councillor and council colleague, an excellent mother and she stood up for all who she represented.
