Barrier to Be Removed at Wentworth Grove Following Cllr Christon-Whyte’s Intervention
Cllr Samantha Christon-Whyte has received confirmation from the council that the obstructive safety barrier will be removed within the next two weeks.
The barrier has caused particular difficulties for older residents, especially those using walkers or mobility aids, when accessing the Post Office and local shops.
Following Cllr Christon-Whyte’s follow-up with the council, an apology has been issued for the delay and inconvenience.
She said she is pleased the issue is finally being resolved and will continue to monitor progress to ensure it’s completed as promised.

Helping Bilton Parish Council Tackle Flooding in the Cemetery
Cllr Christon-Whyte connected the Parish Clerk with her drainage contact, Nathan from the Internal Drainage Board, so a site meeting could take place to look at solutions to the persistent flooding in the new part of Bilton Cemetery.
Attending was Brian, the Clerk from Bilton Parish Council, along with Mick from Bilton Allotments.
Nathan was really positive — he’s arranging a field survey in the coming weeks to trace existing drainage and assess the cost of connecting a new pipe to the main drain near Asda.
Progress is being made!

Speaking Up for Villagers Opposed to Hydrogen Industrialisation
Cllr Christon-Whyte & Cllr John Holtby spoke on behalf of Villagers Opposed to Industrial Countryside Expansion and residents at East Riding’s Planning Committee, urging councillors to reject SSE’s hydrogen power plant proposal near Aldbrough.
The plans bring no local benefit — just 112 HGVs a day, industrial infrastructure, and long-term damage to our rural and coastal landscape. Despite this, the application was approved.
We was proud to stand with local residents in calling for better — and we’ll continue to support them in challenging industrial sprawl across Mid Holderness.

Championing Improvements at South Holderness Leisure Centre
Cllr Samantha Whyte and Cllr Sue Steel are working hard to improve facilities at East Riding Leisure South Holderness. Recent upgrades include a refurbished reception area and a revamped gym, creating a more modern and welcoming space for both visitors and staff.
To celebrate these improvements, they recently welcomed Graham Stuart MP for a tour, showcasing the transformed gym, refreshed reception, and enhanced working environment.
But the work doesn’t stop here! The councillors are continuing their efforts, pushing for the next phase of development—a brand-new dry facility changing area to further improve the centre’s facilities for the community.
